St. Michael's Chapel Association

In 1996 the Community of the Holy Archangel Michael, located at 266 Mulberry Street in New York City, established St. Michael's Chapel Association, Inc., a 501 (c)3 non-profit tax-exempt organization. The Association was created to nurture and transmit to future generations the Community's unique faith tradition: that of the Russian Orthodoxy in communion with the See of Rome — or "Russian Catholicism" — and to strengthen the practical and spiritual life of the Community.

In fulfilling its purpose, the Association supports the community's ability to offer a meaningful welcome to all those who come to St. Michael's. Since 1936, the community has served many among New York's Russian immigrant population who, having left their homeland because of economic exigencies or other difficulties, arrived at St. Michael's in need of practical assistance and in search of a spiritual home. This tradition of welcome continues today, not only in person in Mulberry Street but now also through the Internet as our Website reaches out across the world. Many non-Russians too find spiritual treasure in the community's unique expression of the faith and taste the warmth of hospitality in a Christian community in which, as in the first communities, all the members are bound together in love.

The Association was also created to raise funds not only in support of the community's ongoing good works but in hope of obtaining a more secure and suitable physical space for worship and community life in the future. “Bear one another's burdens and so you will fulfill the law of Christ.” (Gal 6:2)

Like Simon of Cyrene in this icon from the Church of St. Heracleidisu, Monastery of St. John Lampadisitis, Cyprus, c. 1400, we are called to carry the Cross with Christ — especially by our love and preference for the least of His brethren…

We are most grateful for any contribution you would like to make. If you are unable to contribute financially, we hope we may count on the powerful support of your prayers. We hope too to have the joy of welcoming you one day to St. Michael's. (Directions to St. Michael's; for Schedule of Services please return to Home.)
